Alexander Karlov Photography Workshop

Who am I ?

My name is Alexander Karlov and I am a fashion and portrait photographer based between Canada and Europe. I first discovered photography at the age of 17 but then took a pause in my newly discovered interest to commit to my studies of finance and economics at university. During my university years I started taking pictures again and realized that capturing faces of people and creating fashion images was his my passion. I started quickly enhancing my photographic skills and developing a full time career as a successful fashion & portrait photographer. By the time I was 22 I had already established a large client base, worked with multiple top modeling agencies, landed an internship with one of the most acclaimed fashion photographers in Canada and worked with many companies and small businesses.

Why this workshop is for you

For a while I was a struggling artist myself. I did not know what to do, how to properly process my images, use the right lighting, balance the camera settings, chose the right equipment and lenses. I was feeling totally lost. In this workshop I will try to do my best to give you an idea of the road ahead and set you on a right path and give you the knowledge that I wish I had in the beginning of my photographic journey.

Some of the topics covered

Equipment

Photography is impossible without understanding your own equipment and how to use it properly. In this section I will discuss cameras, their settings & various lenses and which lenses I use myself. We can also determine what type of equipment works best for you and what you need to buy or rent in the future.

Lighting

Lighting is a crucial component of a great image and a significant part of the workshop is devoted to discussing lighting. That includes flashes, reflectors, different light modifiers and we can also go over some of my images and I will reveal some of my lighting schemes.

Retouching & Editing

Nowadays a final photograph is not just you clicking the camera. Editing is critically important and is part of your final result. We will go over my full editing process and discuss various retouching techniques that I implement.

Learning & Career Advice

Lastly we can go over your own images and review your portfolio. I will pinpoint your mistakes and advise you on how to improve your work. I can also give you some career & business suggestions, tell you about my own path to becoming full time & give you advice on how to learn and progress.

Live Practice

During the workshop there will be a professional model with years of experience from a top modeling agency who I will use to show different lighting techniques and you can even take a few pictures of her yourself to practice and try new techniques.

Final Bonus

At the end of the session I will send you a file with a list of links & resources with helpful information like websites for inspiration, videos of backstage from various photo shoots, instructional videos on youtube for lighting and editing and a list of my favourite worldwide acclaimed photographers who's work you can follow for inspiration and guidance. I used many of these resources myself to learn. I will also create a group chat on Instagram where you can all ask me questions at any time in the future and share ideas with each other.
